Rick and Morty
Aw, Jeez, Uh, I dunno...
I guess I J-Just like, really like R-Rick and Morty, y'know?
All of my drawing start off as a pencil sketch. Sometimes that sketch can be clean, like this one, or sometimes it ends up being a 6 colour layered disaster looking map that only I can read.
Narrowing down the elements of Rick and Morty that I wanted to include in this Fan Art piece was not easy, there are so many iconic characters and elements that it is nearly impossible to map out the Where's Waldo of Dimension C-137, but I tried to pick favourites and this is where I ended up.
Laying down the ink for this was a little bit trickier, because of the open spaces with the cartoon style I found myself going a lot faster than usual and smudging the ink before it had time to dry. This was a bit of a pain in the a**, but I started over and went back and forth between sections so areas had time to sit before going back in for more detail.
Tip: Using a blank piece of Acetate or Card Stock under your hand can help glide smoothly on the paper and prevent smudging from Inks or Pencil.
When going over my sketches I prefer to do it with a fresh sheet of paper and a light table, and then add in the small details when I ink. There is no right or wrong way to do this. Some people Ink directly over their pencil sketch, some transfer to new paper, some scan the sketch and Ink digitally. Whatever method is most comfortable is the one I always recommend to people venturing into digitizing their artwork.
From here, I scan the line art and add colour on my computer. Once the design is finished I create multiple backup files and send it off for production!
Thank you for taking time to check it out!
