Vegvisir Tray DIY
If you smell something burn ing in this tutorial, it’s okay.
Vegvisir
the wayfinder
The Vegvisir, also known as the runic compass or the Viking compass/Nordic compass made of eight Viking rune staves, is a symbol of protection and guidance believed to be used as a compass by Vikings. The word vegvisir means 'wayfinder' and 'sign post' in Icelandic language. Vegvísir was drawn on one's forehead with blood to prevent a person from getting lost.

Draw on your Wooden Canvas where you will be burning into the wood, if it is your first time keep the lines simple or try a dot work design. Burn and emboss your pattern into the wooden tray. Follow the instructions that come with your tool, and be careful, it gets HOT! When you are finished and happy with your design, you can clean up the surface by lightly using a sanding sponge over your embossing. Make sure to clean the area of any dust thoroughly before staining the wood your desired colour.
Let your stained canvas sit for approximately 24-48 hours to ensure it has fully dried and cured. Align the handles for placement, and mark then drill your holes for the handles on your tray. Use the Gloss Varnish on your tray before attaching the handles, and let dry fully before assembling.
And Enjoy!
